Mother’s Day isn’t about finding the most extravagant gifts, it’s about letting mom know that she’s remembered and appreciated. Giving her something you’ve put the time and effort into making as well as showing your personality is meaningful. This DIY Mother’s Day picture frame project is a great way to honor mothers and remind them that they are unique, appreciated, and loved.
DIY Mother’s Day Gift
Channeling Taylor’s “ME!” lyrics, we wrote a note to our moms, telling them “You’re the only one of you!” Of course, a note like that needs a frame. But not just any frame will do. No, we decided that the best frame would be one that incorporated our Swiftie essence.
Recycling an old frame, we spray painted it white. We chose a simple shade of pink cardstock and hand-lettered our message, beginning with “Dear Mom,” and included some heart flourishes. You can also put a picture of you in the frame to make it a little more special. If there is a photo of you and your mom (and siblings if you have any!) that can add a really personal and sentimental touch to your gift.
In order to add a little more personality to the frame, we hot glued silk flowers and greenery to the upper left-hand corner. To balance it out, we added a beautiful gold butterfly in the lower right-hand corner. This particular butterfly was originally a broach, encrusted with a colorful array of stones.
Remember, you can make this project reflect your personality and your mom’s too! If your mom loves a certain type of flower, a hobby, or favorite color you can incorporate those. Stephanie McKenna, Digital Marketing Director for Mood 13 Magazine put antique buttons on hers instead of a broach because her mother loves sewing. She also painted the frame in a soft blue to match the sewing room her mom spends a lot of time in and made sure to include a picture of her with her 2 siblings.
